ANOTHER weather-affected day for the Bolton Sports Federation Over-35s Football League saw just six games played.

Of the two scheduled Sam Ashworth Trophy second-round games, only the Heaton Casuals’ match against Old Bolts was completed and it went to a penalty shootout.

Clint McLoughlin and Kieron Seals scored for Heaton while Paul Berry and Ashley Walsh did likewise for the visitors in a 2-2 draw, but Heaton Casuals eventually triumphed as they won 4-1 on penalties,

The only match in Division One saw Rochdale Sports draw level with leaders Radcliffe Old Boys A, though they trail on goal difference and have played a game more than Radcliffe who were not in action.

Rochdale thrashed bottom side Salford Waggon 8-0 as Daz Smith scored four and Paul Sykes two with Mark Whiteside and Wayne Traynor adding one each.

Division Two also had just one match in which a Mike Longsdale goal for AFC Dobbies B was not enough to avoid defeat at home to Radcliffe Town who scored twice.

If the season had gone to plan, Divisions Three and Four would have been wrapped up, but that is not the case and they are now working to clear the outstanding games, with two played in Division Three and one in Division Four.

Royal Farnworth Vets went to Tavern FC in Division Three and won 2-0 thanks to Garry Hunt and Stephen Goodridge being on target.

The result put Royal three points above their opponents, but Tavern have a game in hand.

Bolton Wyresdale in third place have the same points as Royal Farnworth, but have games in hand. They did their goal difference a world of good on Sunday by beating bottom side Radcliffe Vets B 5-1 with Jason Knowles, Ric Fielding, Mark Grundy and Paul Gibson scoring and an own goal giving them five.

Deans Youth climbed to fifth in Division Four with a satisfying 3-0 victory at Unity Brook.

Ian Nixon scored two and Daz Schofield one, but they have played more games than the three teams below them, so they will have to work hard to maintain their position.
