TWO Bolton Sports Federation Over-35s Football League cup finals were played on Sunday and in both cases, two goals separated the teams at the final whistle.

In the Division One Cup final, goals by Mathew Campbell and Barry Massey gave Barhill Vets a 2-0 victory over Radcliffe Old Boys A.

There were four goals in the Division Three final in which Gidlow Athletic beat Tavern 3-1, thanks to strikes by Lee Sherman, Steve Bell and Mark Glover, John Coogan finding the net for Tavern.

Eleven league games were played on Sunday and in Division One, league leaders Rochdale Sports crashed to a 5-0 home defeat to second-placed Radcliffe Vets A, who still have a game to play but cannot catch Rochdale.

However, Radcliffe Old Boys A and Salford Victoria each have four outstanding games and Barhill have five, so any of the three could yet overhaul Rochdale and top the table.

Dave Mallius (two), John Robinson, Lee Webb and Mark Ayers were Radcliffe Vets’ scorers.

Salford Waggon and Bar Lane Bowling Club started their match on four points each at the bottom of the table, but two goals by Lee Murgatroyd were enough to win the game for Bar Lane.

Division Two leaders Bolton Lads and Girls Club were not troubled in the home match against Tika Taka Volunteers and they romped to a 5-0 victory with goals by Robert Knight, Del Rosso, Dave Warburton, Fahid Anaur and Andy Clarke.

Horwich St Mary’s kept up the pressure by winning 3-2 at Old Bolts for whom Gary Cowell scored a brace, but Daniel Spillman, Michael Cowburn and Sammy Cardwell were on target for Horwich who are four points off the lead with two games in hand.

Radcliffe Town lost 4-1 at home to AFC Dobbies B, but with four games in hand on Dobbies, they could be above them by the end of the season. Brendon Kimmins’ goal proved mere consolation for Radcliffe as Dobbies’ John Armstrong scored a hat-trick and Barry Gallagher bagged one.

Although they remain bottom of the table, Home Guard Failsworth Vets had a satisfying 2-1 win at Turton. Paul Lewis and Mark Hurst scored for the visitors and Gary Burns for Turton.

Radcliffe Old Boys B head Division Three by six points ahead of Bolton Wyresdale. Both have two games left and have identical goal differences, so Radcliffe need just one more point to be champions. Wyresdale fought out a goalless draw at Moss Bank but a Nathan Comley double and Mark Owen hat-trick kept Radcliffe on track as they beat The Lever Arms 5-2.

The top two in Division Four met at Ainsworth and Heaton Casuals won 2-1 to lead the table by three points and a superior goal difference. Michael Jefferson scored for Ainsworth, but Chris Sutcliffe and Tony McCormick won the day for Heaton who have played a game more than their opponents.

Atherton Town completed their season with a 3-2 defeat at Tottington United for whom Noel Worsley, Paul Allan and Anthony Garnett out-scored Atherton’s Neil Challenger and Pete Carson.

Wigan Town beat PF Bury 3-1.
