RADCLIFFE AC had 171 finishers at its annual multi-terrain 10k race on Sunday.

First place in the popular event went to unattached runner Cameron Ronaldson in 37mins 29secs, while Hannah Price, from Bury AC, was first woman in 42:47, adding to her victory at Radcliffe’s 10-mile race in February.

Second overall was Gary Bailey, from Pudsey and Bramley AC, in 37:38, while Bury AC’s Patrick Babb was third in 37:54.

There was more success for Pudsey and Bramley AC with Karen Pickles clocking 44:04 to finish second woman. Third was Erica Booth from Horwich RMI Harriers in 44:34.

Todmorden Harriers won the men’s team prize and Thornton Cleveleys Running Club took the women’s team title.

The race along the Outwood Trail and canal towpath started from the Nellie Halstead Track at Cams Lane in Radcliffe, named after the town’s former Olympian.

Prizes were presented at Cams Lane Primary School by race director Fiona Lynch and club member Mark Emmett.

A cake sale along with massages by club member and sport therapist Paula Abernety raised £252 for the Salford Royal neuro-oncology unit.

On the club racing scene, Radcliffe had a fantastic 23 runners at the Curley’s 5k Trail Race at Horwich, the third fixture in the Central Lancashire Grand Prix which is contested by 10 local clubs.

Just three days after setting a club marathon record, Neal Emmerson was second overall in 18:21 on the hilly and challenging course, while Katie Percival was second woman in 22:34.

They helped Radcliffe to claim team victory, continuing the club’s great start to the grand prix.

Christopher Whittaker was fifth overall in 18:54 and Chris Paxton finished 12th in 20:29, one place and five seconds ahead of John Wrigley.

Three members took on the 41st Calderdale Hike, with two circular routes open to runners and walkers.

Ian Warrington and Fiona Lynch finished the longer 39-mile route which has around 6,200 feet of ascent in 8:24:00. Sarah Oxley completed the 28-mile route with approximately 3,200 feet of climbing in 8:11:00 

David Schofield travelled to France for his first marathon, running the Paris Marathon in 5:20:10.

Closer to home. Caroline Malone was third Vet 50 at the West Lancs Spring Triathlon in Ormskirk, completing the 400m swim, 18.5k cycle and 5k run in 1:22:49.

In the popular 5k parkruns, Nick Barnes was first home for the club at Heaton Park in 24:27.
