WANDERERS may be forced to take the unprecedented step of playing their home game against Brentford four days after the season is due to end.

Confusion continued to reign at the University of Bolton Stadium today after a meeting of the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) was postponed until Tuesday, May 7.

The game had originally been pencilled in for Wednesday night. But with doubt over whether wages would be paid, and a strong possibility staff could refuse to work, the safety certificate was again in question.

A statement from the EFL confirmed there is an option to play up to and including May 9.

“Discussions have continued with Bolton Wanderers, Brentford and other relevant parties throughout the course of the past 48 hours in regards to the rescheduling of last weekend’s Sky Bet Championship fixture,” it read.

“There has been suggestions in the public domain that that the game could potentially take place on Wednesday, May 1, 2019.

“However, Bolton Wanderers has not yet confirmed this will be the case and the EFL will advise via the appropriate channels as soon as a definitive decision is reached. “EFL Regulations do provide for any match to be played within four days of the end the normal playing season.”
