WANDERERS’ players will complete the final two games of the season after the intervention of the PFA yesterday.
The Bolton News understands that the players’ union have personally loaned professional players at the club part of their March wages to ensure they take their field against Nottingham Forest on Sunday and Brentford next week.
We have learned there has yet to be complete agreement within the squad but the club is confident it will be able to fulfil the fixtures and avoid major punishments.
A statement from the dressing room read: “The players would like to state their appreciation for the ongoing support of the PFA throughout this difficult period.
“We are especially grateful for the significant financial assistance that was offered and received today.”
The EFL has issued a statement to confirm the Forest game will go ahead at the City Ground but that the board will reschedule the Brentford game on a chosen date before May 9.
There could yet be complications on that front if Wanderers do not find the money to pay matchday staff and emergency services required to keep the stadium's safety certificate.
"Bolton Wanderers has confirmed to the EFL that its first team squad will be available for the Club’s away fixture against Nottingham Forest at the weekend," it read.
"As a result the game will take place as originally scheduled on Sunday, May 5, kick-off 12.30pm along with all other Sky Bet Championship fixtures.
"The EFL Board will determine on Thursday, May 2 as to what arrangements are to be put in place in regards to last week’s suspended fixture with Brentford and details will be confirmed in due course."
