LUCA Connell has been rewarded for a promising first season at Wanderers with a call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad.
Mick McCarthy has drafted the 18-year-old into the reckoning for upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Denmark and Gibraltar.
Connell has just 12 first team appearances for Wanderers and has attracted attention from several top sides including Tottenham, Leeds United, Rangers and Norwich City.
He was fast-tracked from the successful Under-18s side, spending only a brief spell in the development squad, before making debut in the 5-2 FA Cup third round victory against Walsall in January. A first league start followed a few weeks later in a 1-1 draw against Reading.
Connell has played up to Under-19s level for Ireland and also had the option of switching international allegiances to England.
