JOSH Magennis has returned to pre-season training with Wanderers as Phil Parkinson’s side pressed on with preparations for their summer opener against York City.

The Northern Ireland international had been granted a few extra days off after playing for his country in the European Championship qualifiers but was back in the camp at Lostock yesterday.

Magennis had signed off international duty last month by admitting his future at Bolton was unclear with the club in administration.

The striker, who has one year left on his contract, was linked with moves to SPL clubs Rangers and Hearts on the strength he could hand in his notice and move for free after going without pay since March.

Magennis finished as Wanderers’ top-scorer last season, scoring seven goals in all competitions including an FA Cup hat-trick against Walsall.

Losing a player who cost the club £200,000 from Charlton Athletic last summer – becoming the first cash signing in more than three years – would have been a hammer blow. But after getting back down to business on the training ground, the 28-year-old is now expected to be part of the squad which travels to Bootham Crescent on Sunday for the first pre-season friendly.

Youth team players have been drafted into training to make up the numbers and several could be used to pad out a slender first-team party this weekend.

If, as expected, the Football Ventures consortium complete their takeover of the club, Parkinson will be cleared to bring in trialists, or to move on some of the players who have already been earmarked as potential signings for the League One campaign.

The consortium are also understood to be in negotiations to buy The Bolton Whites Hotel and are hoping both deals could be sorted quickly.

As the season continues to take shape, Wanderers’ home derby against Bury has been moved to Sunday, September 8 with a noon kick-off for Sky Sports coverage.

Tickets have also gone on sale for Wanderers’ pre-season friendly against Preston North End at the County Ground, Leyland on July 23 (7.45pm kick-off).

They are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for Over-65s and Under-16s.
