As the few flocked down to the football with heavy hearts, further catastrophic news greeted us as there was no Doombar to lubricate our deliberations.

No manager, no season tickets, no shirts to buy, no shirt sponsors, no betting, no half-time beer tokens, no car park passes but at least we had a mismatch to watch between our Development squad and Ipswich Town.

A programme is a necessity these days to learn the names of our team and full credit to them as they gave their all against better and more experienced opposition.

The fans got behind the young lads to try and lift them, especially after each goal went in.

But this is soul-destroying to watch, and it must be soul-destroying to play in.

Our club is dying before our eyes as the administrators and all concerned fail to match the effort put in by our young players.

The definition of “imminent” is happening soon. Maybe those involved don’t understand the concept as they practise their brinkmanship, but they need to understand that there is a club to be saved now.

Hopefully the EFL’s new deadline will focus their minds.

It’s been another traumatic week. You can debate whether the Doncaster match should have been called off but at least it should have been done properly by consulting with the EFL and Doncaster.

No doubt more punishment will be heading our way.

As for Phil Parkinson and Steve Parkin, I can only thank them for their dignified efforts in the most awful, trying conditions in which any manager would have struggled.

Even so, there are some happy memories from the promotion and last-gasp survival campaigns. I wish them both well in their future careers.

The takeover must be sorted imminently, and it must provide financial security for at least the next two years.

I can’t see there being much money around to invest in players, so we are going to have to rebuild our squad on next to nothing.

If we survive, then this season will be about building a team ready to compete in League Two next season.

We’re already at the point where we will need play-off performances to avoid relegation.

We need to set a football plan with realistic targets.

Finally, best wishes to our neighbours Bury in their fight for survival and we hope to welcome them to the Unibol in a fortnight’s time.
