EGERTON failed to set a defendable target as they fell to defeat at Prestwich in the Premier Division.

The visitors batted first and Janith Liyanage hit 41 at the top of the order, with Syd De Silva weighing in with 26.

But number four batsman Dan Partington was left stranded on 18 not out as the lower order failed to muster much, as Edgworth slipped from 127-6 to an all-out total of 142, Ryan Stanbury taking 5-41 for Prestwich.

The bowling attack offered some hope for Egerton, as they reduced Prestwich to 37-4.

De Silva led the bowling with 3-35 but Prestwich made their target in the 41st over with four wickets in hand.

Defeat leaves Egerton eighth in the table ahead of this weekend’s fixture at home to Roe Green.

In Division One B Astley and Tyldesley surrendered top spot after their three-wicket defeat at Greenmount.

Chathura Randunu Sayakkara Kankanamge de Silva was A&T’s leading batsman as they chose to bat first. He made 58 at number four, the only real support coming from opener Alex Heaton, who made 31. No other batsman reached double figures.

With Nick Kennedy taking 5-25 Greenmount restricted Astley to 141 all out.

And although De Silva took 3-45 in Greenmount’s reply openers Kaustub Pawar and Andy Kerr made 25 and 55 respectively to set them on their way to the target, which they reached in the 35th over.

With Walshaw winning at home to Whalley Range they now head the division by two points.

A&T host Edgworth this Saturday, and play the likely title decider at Walshaw the following Saturday.

Edgworth were winners by two wickets hosting Bury, chasing down a target of 159.

The visitors were put in to bat and thanks to 50 from opener Ben Gorton they made an all-out 158 inside 48 overs.

Liam Watkinson was Edgworth’s outstanding bowler, finishing with 5-40 while Umega Chathuranga and Chris Bentley took two wickets apiece, spinner Jamie Smith the other.

Edgworth’s reply got off to a tricky start, as they slipped to 28-4 but Watkinson’s 32 steadied the ship and with contributions from Rob Nacroft (27), Josh Fallows (36) and Smith (29 not out) they reached 159 with eight down.
