THIS week’s delve into the picture archives at The Bolton News has unearthed this photograph of a Westhoughton XI football team from September 1989 but we have no clue what is going on.

The information accompanying the picture says the team are joined by referee Norman Prince along with Westhoughton Festival Queen, Julianne Hill and Wanderers stars Gary Henshaw, Julian Darby and Dean Crombie who brought along the Sherpa Van trophy they won earlier that year.

Do you remember that team or recognise anyone pictured?

Can you recall the occasion?

Email david.pye@nqnw.co.uk with any recollections.

The second picture was published in the sporting nostalgia section on July 19 and is of the Bolton Association side from 1982.

Reader Phil Royle spotted himself in the line-up and got in touch.

He said: "The picture is full of great stalwarts of the BDCA and who contributed much, both on and off the field, to Bolton cricket in it's heyday.

"Pictured, back, from left, are: Me (Clifton), Norman Jones (Daisy Hill), Frank Jackson (Little Hulton), Aslam Quereshi (Roe Green pro), Anwar Khan (Walshaw pro), Raddi Patel (Atherton pro); front, Mick Dunn (Little Hulton, wicketkeeper), Mike Davies (Edgworth), Paul Tatton (St Andrews), Jeff Shuttleworth (Daisy Hill) and Larry Booth (Daisy Hill).

"I have very happy memories of playing alongside some great league cricketers."
