BLACKSHAW Primary School pulled a victory out of the bag when it really mattered, beating Bolton St Catherine’s Academy in the final game of the Year Five tag rugby tournament.

Five schools entered, with St Brendan’s, St Osmund’s and Red Lane also taking part to play four matches in a league.

The destiny of the Chadwick Shield hinged on three matches

BSCA v St Osmund’s – both teams went into match five with 100-per-cent records and it was the trophy holders, BSCA, who came out on top 3-2.

Match seven pitted Blackshaw against St Osmund’s with the latter needing to win to give themselves a chance to get among the medals.

A thrilling encounter ended all square at 3-3, which was enough for Blackshaw as they had already won two from two.

The final game between Blackshaw and BSCA was, effectively, a cup final, with St Catherine’s needing only a draw while Blackshaw needed to win. And a superb game ended in a win for Blackshaw by three tries to one. The winners are pictured.
