THIBAUD Verlinden waved goodbye to Wanderers – thanking them for helping him become a “better person” as he returned to Stoke City.

The Belgian winger, who proved a hit at the UniBol with three goals in 17 appearances, has been recalled by the Potters to feature against Brentford in the FA Cup this weekend.

Speaking to the club on his departure, Verlinden did not sound as if another deal to re-join Wanderers beyond January was in the offing.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Bolton Wanderers, and I wish the club all the best for the future,” he said in an official statement.

“Not only have I become a better player during my time with the club, but I’ve also become a better person.”

Hill also admits a return for Nottingham Forest midfielder Liam Bridcutt looks less likely.

The former Brighton and Leeds midfielder picked up a hamstring injury in the draw against Shrewsbury on December 29 and has now returned to his parent club.

“He has been playing for Bolton but does he have other options? Yes,” said the Bolton boss.

“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work that out. We want to keep him but it’s a situation we’ll have to deal with between now and Rochdale, then beyond that as we go into the rest of January.”
