WANDERERS have confirmed the signing of Manchester United midfielder Ethan Hamilton on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old was recalled last week from a season-long loan at Southend United, where he had made 18 appearances in all competitions this season.

A Scotland youth international, Hamilton was called up to United’s first team squad in January 2018 by Jose Mourinho, but ended up as an unused substitute for an FA Cup game against Huddersfield Town.

He went out on loan last January to Keith Hill’s Rochdale, replacing David Perkins in midfield, and helped the club escape relegation from League One under Hill’s successor, Brian Barry-Murphy.

It emerged over the summer that Dale tried to sign Hamilton but were out-bid by Southend, who have since struggled with Wanderers at the foot of the table.

Hamilton failed to win a regular place in the Southend team since Sol Campbell arrived as manager at the start of December – and he goes straight into the Bolton squad bound for Spotland this weekend.
