WILL Buckley’s second spell at Wanderers has come to an end, with Keith Hill confirming there are no current plans to extend his contract.

After making his comeback from a fractured kneecap in the 4-3 defeat against Burton on New Year’s Day, the 30-year-old winger will now be looking for a new club in 2020.

Buckley was signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2017 by Phil Parkinson following his release by Sunderland.

He scored twice in his first season but a hamstring issue hampered his progress for the early half of the campaign.

The following year he featured 34 times, scoring four league goals, but financial issues at the club led to his release in May.

A couple of months later Buckley was brought back in to train by Parkinson and was later given a short-term contract by new boss Keith Hill.

However, injury problems struck again when after an encouraging start Buckley damaged his knee in a training ground collision, ruling him out for three months.

Hill confirmed a new deal was not being considered at this moment in time.

“He’s contract has run out and at this moment in time we’re unlikely to re-engage,” he said on Friday.

In total the former Sunderland and Brighton man made 65 appearances, 22 of which were from the bench, scoring six goals.

Buckley’s release also comes in the same week he was included in the club’s ‘Team of the Decade’ voting for the left midfield spot.
