GIVEN the last postponement, made at the point many Wanderers fans had already made the trip over to Lincolnshire in late October, the arrival of Storm Brendan has caused a few anxious glances towards the forecast.

A rainy Tuesday evening at Sincil Bank sounds like it could be a lower league right of passage. But it is not one that fazes attacking full-back Josh Emmanuel.

After feeling his side did not get what they deserved in the wet weather at Spotland on Saturday, the former Ipswich man would have jumped aboard the next bus heading to Lincoln after the final whistle for a chance to make amends.

“I can’t wait for it,” he said of the prospect of facing the Imps. “If we keep working hard like we did there (at Rochdale), the wins will come.

“For me it takes no motivation to go again at all. I could be playing football in the park and I’d be enthusiastic.

“The love most players have for the game gets you out there and that’s why I love it here at Bolton because they give me an opportunity to do that.”

Wanderers remain 17 points from safety, a gap which many predict is too big to bridge regardless of what recruits Keith Hill manages to bring in during January.

But any pessimism on the terraces certainly hasn’t translated to the dressing room there Emmanuel insists there is still a firm belief the club can avoid relegation.

“One hundred per cent,” he said. “We never doubt it, and the moment we do it’s game over.

“We’ve got short sleeves but we’ll roll them up anyway.

“The gaffer and Flicks are on us every day. They are enthusiastic and so is the team. We can still do it. They have got us all working on the training ground.

“We know what we need to do now, we just need to implement it on the training pitch. We are certainly trying.”

Emmanuel is also impressed at the signing of his former Portman Road team-mate Toto Nsiala, who made a steady start to life at Bolton on his debut at Rochdale.

“He’s a baller, a rock at the back, and as you saw there, he has come in like it’s nothing,” Emmanuel said.

“We all know what we need to do, keep pushing on, keep pushing in the right direction.

“It’s hard with the smaller squad but the players who came in, Liam Edwards did well, they are all ready. We all want the same thing and the wins will come.”
