POPULAR Masters duo Anne Ferguson and Mel Walker both claimed category victories in very different races over the weekend.

Ferguson (F60), pictured far left, was the eighth female overall at the Ashurst Beacon fell race, close to Skelmersdale.

The 9.5k course, which also included 950ft of climbing, didn’t stop her recording a great time of 51:47mins.

Walker, near left, was first M75 at the popular Garstang 10k road race, in which nearly 500 runners took on the course and the Burnden man won his category with a strong time of 52:40.

Gemma Chapman probably ran the toughest race of the weekend for Burnden, as she took part in the Petzl 10k Night run in Rivington. She completed the event in 1:58:49.

The turn of the year saw the completion of the club’s latest New Beginners training sessions which take part over a 13-week period from the club’s base at Smithills School.

The group celebrated their achievement by taking part in the Bolton parkrun in full fancy dress.
