JOE Bunney made his long-waited comeback from injury last night with a run-out in the development squad.

The former Northampton Town and Rochdale defender has not played a minute of football since signing for the club on a free transfer in August.

Bunney was ruled out of action for at least four months after sustaining broken ribs and a broken shoulder in a car accident on the M55 motorway.

He returned to training a few weeks ago but made his first appearance in club colours for the Under-23s in a 2-1 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday at Leyland, playing 68 minutes.

After the game, Bunney posted a message on his official Twitter account, which read: “Been a long, tough journey but glad to finally be back out there and get some minutes in the bank.”

Wanderers went ahead in the first half through Connor Hall, who had ran on to a through-ball from Muhammadu Faal.

Fraser Preston equalised just before half time for Wednesday, who went on to claim victory with an 81st minute goal from Conor Grant.
