KEITH Hill is keen to add a missing ingredient to the game of talented youngster Dennis Politic.

Until Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against Portsmouth, the midfielder had not completed 90 minutes in a League One game in the last four months.

Politic has made 21 appearances this season but has lasted the full distance on only a handful of occasions, something Hill feels can be improved.

The Bolton boss says the youngster has responded in training and is starting to improve his overall game after being given more first-team exposure. “Dennis has got to learn on the job,” he told The Bolton News. “Each day isn’t just a vehicle to get from one game to the next one, these young players need to absorb in their environment and learn from the experiences that I’ve had with younger players in the past, and so has Flicker (David Flitcroft).

“There’s a bigger picture beyond the smaller one, which is 90 minutes.

“Dennis can be an excellent player but he has to improve on his fitness. I don’t want to be in a position where he’s flagging and letting full-backs out or central midfield players in the later stages of the game.

“He’s onside with us and I’ve had some great conversations with him about his performances.”
