IT BROUGHT a new meaning to being sent to Coventry as we found the Coventry City nomads currently residing at Birmingham City’s St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy stadium.

This meant that we could enjoy a couple of ham and onion rolls, a packet of crisps and a pint of Ansell’s mild and still have change out of a fiver at the welcoming Cricketers Arms.

As we chatted to some Sky Blues fans, it was obvious that they feel aggrieved at the turn of events which led to them having to leave the Ricoh and in particular feelings are still running high against their local council and Wasps Rugby Club for the way that the stadium was sold at a bargain price.

Inside the stadium, it was an unusual set up with only half the stadium being used; the Bolton fans in the Gil Merrick stand behind the goals and the Coventry fans all squeezed into the Spion Kop stand on the side.

Keith Hill was able to name an unchanged side as we looked to build on last week’s win, against an in-form Coventry City side challenging for promotion.

It didn’t take Coventry long to open up our defence as they went ahead in the third minute.

Other than a good effort, well saved from Dennis Politic, we were fortunate to be only one down at the interval as Coventry were given the freedom of the park.

It was a different story in the second half as we made a game of it. Politic finished off a great cross from Chris O’Grady and we had several other chances to go ahead.

But we got caught in the last minute when we failed to clear and Max Biamou got the winner.

Overall, we were unlucky to come away with nothing.

The transfer window has shut until the summer and there was quite a discussion amongst the fans about the number of loan players brought in and how this means that there will be a substantial rebuilding job in every transfer window.

Fans are concerned that we lost the four loanees from the first half of the season and that could happen again in the summer.

But that is modern football and also the position we are in, while we are rebuilding the club.

It is going to be a big test of managerial skills, something Tobias Phoenix hopefully is up for.
