PETERBOROUGH owner Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed one of his club’s player is in self-isolation to check if he has the coronavirus.

The Premier League and EFL will meet this morning “to make a decision on this weekend’s fixtures and beyond” and are expected to recommend suspending competitions for the short-term.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson called for a postponement yesterday – but MacAnthony has now revealed that he will actively pursue that the game is called-off, even if the EFL do not recommend a nationwide halt.

He tweeted: “My manager and I agree BTW does not want to travel to Bolton tomorrow. One of our players is now in self-isolation awaiting results. We just played Pompey who just played Arsenal. Will be reaching out to the EFL today re this and if they are going to make us play tomorrow.”

Peterborough played against Portsmouth last weekend – with Pompey having met Arsenal in the FA Cup five days earlier.

Arsenal manager Mikael Arteta is self-isolating and the Gunners’ Premier League game against Brighton has now been called off.

Several media outlets are reporting that a two-week suspension is the most likely outcome to this morning’s meeting.
