PETERBOROUGH United owner Darragh MacAnthony believes the correct decision has been reached to suspend the English football programme for three weeks.
MacAnthony’s club were due to play Wanderers this afternoon but reported that two players had gone into self-isolation after experiencing symptoms of the COVID-19 virus.
Posh boss Darren Ferguson also called for the Bolton game to be postponed on Thursday, and the team were due to travel overnight so they did not have to stay together in a hotel.
MacAnthony suggested that Premier League clubs should make loans available to help lower-league sides cope with the financial pressures of the break.
“It’s a problem for clubs now because we are dealing with athletes who need to keep training to stay fit,” he said. “It’s been a confusing and frustrating time for sure.
“Obviously the biggest cause for concern is everyone’s health, but there will now be income shortfalls which will hurt lower-league clubs in particular.
“We have lost two home games at a time when we are also trying to sell season tickets. Wages still have to be paid.”
