WANDERERS have thanked fans for their patience during lockdown as their relegation from League One was officially confirmed by the EFL.

An official statement was released this afternoon, shortly after it was announced that clubs had voted to curtail the League One season immediately.

“Bolton Wanderers Football Club acknowledges the statement issued by the EFL in reference to the curtailment of the Sky Bet League One campaign and that this results in the club being relegated to League Two,” the statement read.

“The club will issue a detailed response in the coming days.

“In the meantime, we would like to thank our supporters, staff and all other stakeholders for the incredible patience and support they have shown to the club since lockdown commenced in March.”

Wanderers will now begin rebuilding for League Two – with many believing competitive football could return in early-to-mid September, provided further progress is made in controlling the coronavirus pandemic.

A retained list is expected to be announced in the near future, along with updates on the future of manager Keith Hill and his assistant David Flitcroft, who are both out of contract at the end of this month.

It is also understood that Wanderers will be making a change at board level in the coming days and weeks.

Updates on season tickets are also on the cards, including the potential of refunds for games which were not played in 2019/20.
