WANDERERS fans pulled together nearly £1,000 to buy a tribute to the late mother of ex-Burnden Park midfielder Tony Kelly.
An online fundraising page set up by Bolton supporter Alan Mather generated enough to purchase a commemorative bench and plaque dedicated to Margaret Kelly, a hard-working volunteer in her Liverpool community who passed away last month.
Tony Kelly – nicknamed Zico in his playing days with the Whites – now works with the Community Trust and has also coached at youth team and Under-23s level.
Speaking to Wanderers earlier this month he said: “When I first joined the club I was welcomed with open arms by the Bolton community. The town soon became my home and it quickly became apparent just how special this place is.
“Following my mum’s passing, I was heartened by the way everybody got behind me and my family.
“I cannot thank them enough for the love and warmth they have shown me.”
