Members of the Bolton Wanderers Remembrance Group presented former Wanderer Tony Kelly and his family a cheque for more than £600 and a memorial bench after the passing of his mother, Margaret.

After a huge fundraising effort from supporters totalling £1,250, Steve Hague and James Derby visited former Burnden Park favourite Kelly, his father Pat and sister Lynn, to pass on the gifts.

Kelly said: “The love the Bolton fans have shown me and my family during these sad times has been overwhelming.

"If I said thank you a million times it wouldn’t be enough.”

Alan Mather, one of the founders of the group, added: “We thank everyone who donated. Tony is one of our own and we thank him for everything he does for the club.”

The money raised will go towards holding a day out at bingo for pensioners at the Hillywood Community Centre, where Margaret Kelly volunteered for more than 20 years.
