WANDERERS are now in a strong position to land Antoni Sarcevic after upping their offer to the 28-year-old midfielder this week.

The Manchester-born star was strongly tipped to be on his way to Salford City last month after turning down a chance to stay at promoted Plymouth Argyle in League One, with an eye on returning to the North West.

Wanderers expressed an interest at the time but Ian Evatt’s arrival as manager appears to have strengthened their resolve to bring him to the University of Bolton Stadium.

It has been reported that an improved has now been submitted to the players’ representatives which is being seriously considered – and that Bolton could know in the next few days if they have been successful.

Sarcevic, a combative central midfielder who scored 10 goals for the Pilgrims in 30 starts last season, has also been tracked by Mansfield Town.

Dubbed the ‘Manchester Messi’ in the Plymouth media, he won the player of the year award at Home Park last season and had previously helped Fleetwood Town to promotion in 2012/13.

Wanderers have been assessing their options in the middle of the park and maintain some interest in ex-skipper, Jay Spearing, who is also a free agent after leaving Blackpool.
