WANDERERS’ perfect pre-season continued against Accrington Stanley with both Eoin Doyle and Nathan Delfouneso on target in a comfortable 3-0 win.

Ian Evatt’s men have now scored 19 goals without conceding a single one in four straight victories this summer.

And with a trialist striker topping things off at Bamber Bridge with a late penalty, the new head coach can have few complaints with how his side is shaping up for the League Two campaign ahead.

The game had a much higher tempo than either of their previous three games and Wanderers found themselves under much more pressure at the back as they tried to play the ball out.

When they got it right, however, it was clinical and Gethin Jones was a constant outlet on the right, teeing up an early chance for Doyle which brought a smart stop from the Accrington keeper.

The opening goal arrived on 13 minutes as Stanley struggled to clear Ali Crawford’s corner and after Antoni Sarcevic’s shot was blocked, Delfouneso pounced on the loose ball to steer a shot into the bottom corner.

George Taft came close to doubling the lead, heading another Crawford corner inches wide, but Wanderers got a big let off when their former midfielder Joe Pritchard got through the middle but tripped over the ball as he bore down on Billy Crellin’s goal.

Doyle was denied again by the Stanley keeper as he turned another good cross from Jones towards the near post but moments later he got the goal he work had deserved, converting from the spot after the referee had spotted a handball from Cameron Burgess.

Wanderers controlled the game going into the break – and Stanley boss John Coleman’s disappointment could be heard quite clearly as he gave his debrief to his players.

Bolton continued to impress going into the second half and Sarcevic very nearly played Doyle in for his second of the game after another lightning quick break.

Things started to get a little volatile after that, however, and Kaba Sheriff was lucky to only pick a yellow card up for a poor challenge on Sarcevic on the hour – but also left the ground on crutches after hurting himself in the process.

Crellin preserved his clean sheet with a fine reaction save to deny Pritchard and as the substitutions began the football became slightly more fragmented.

Stanley broke through on a couple of occasions, Crellin making a good save wth his feet and also a fantastic push round the post in the dying minutes.

But Wanderers had chances to extend their lead too – Brandon Comley skewing a shot over after good work from Doyle and Jak Hickman inches away from making a telling connection to Sarcevic’s clever angled ball.

The last say went to a trialist, however, and after Comley had been felled the final kick of the game ended up in the Stanley net.
