WANDERERS have swooped to sign ex-Charlton Athletic defender Jamie Mascoll, making it 15 new signings this summer.

Ian Evatt has been looking for competition for Liam Gordon on the left side of his defence and passed up on the opportunity to sign Joe Bunney a fortnight ago.

He has now agreed a one-year deal with Mascoll with an option for another 12 months after his release at Wycombe Wanderers this summer.

Mascoll made nine appearances for the Chairboys last term, helping them secure promotion to the Championship for the first time in their history.

He was largely kept out of the reckoning by free-scoring full-back Joe Jacobson but Evatt believes he has all the attributes needed to make an impact at the UniBol.

“Jamie is another player who is a good age and has no end of improvement to come,” he said. “He is lightning quick, has excellent quality with his left foot and we are excited to add him into our group.”

Mascoll spent his teenage years in the non-league with Dulwich Hamlet, getting experience on loan with local sides Phoenix Sports and Cray Wanderers, before moving to fellow Isthmian League Premier Division side Grays Athetic.

He had a second spell with on loan with Dulwich before being invited to trial at Charlton in the summer of 2017, eventually earning a 12 month deal.

Mascoll made a total of six appearances at the Valley, scoring once, either side of another loan at Dulwich, before moving on to Wycombe in July 2019.

The 23-year-old feels he is in good condition to make an immediate impact and could be involved in tomorrow’s pre-season friendly against Wigan Athletic.

"As soon as the interest came about, it was an easy decision to make, especially after speaking to Ian,” he said.

"I’ve been trying to keep myself fit since I left Wycombe and hopefully I can come here and hit the ground running.

"I’m a quick player and I like to try and run in behind as well.

"I think the style of play here at Bolton will suit me a lot."
