WANDERERS slumped to a 2-0 home defeat against Newport, which leaves them above the League Two relegation zone on alphabetical order.

Two goals for Tristan Abrahams buried Ian Evatt’s side in the second half at the UniBol, leaving the head coach questioning whether his players were working hard enough to change their luck on the pitch.

Did anyone escape the finger of blame? Here’s our player ratings from a dismal day.

BILLY CRELLIN… 5.

The young keeper was not helped by his defenders one bit – in possession, of having made the two parries which were mopped up by Abrahams. But could he have pushed the ball to safety? Two good saves in the first half count for something, too.

GETHIN JONES…4.5.

His combinations with Hickman had been a bright spot in defeat at Colchester but there wasn’t much to get excited about this week. Jones covered ground but didn’t make a dent.

RICARDO SANTOS…3.5.

Struggling badly out there and might need to be taken out of the spotlight. Gave away possession, looked slow to react, and never looked dominant against Taylor.

GEORGE TAFT…5.

Escapes most blame from the back four as he did make some important blocks – but definitely guilty by implication on the goals. Admitted after the game that Bolton had not been anywhere near good enough.

LIAM GORDON…4.

Another young lad who is struggling to learn on the job. Always game going forward but being picked off with alarming regularity – here by the impressive Sheppard.

BRANDON COMLEY…4.

Needs to be far more positive in possession as Wanderers are too often being bogged down in their own half. Comley is better than this – no question about it – but his form so far this season has not been good enough.

TOM WHITE… 5.

His distribution at times is excellent but, like Comley, he has been guilty of taking the safe option too often. Penned in for long periods in his own half.

JAK HICKMAN…5.

Not nearly as effective as he had been at Colchester but willing to give it a go. Like Gordon, a young lad who is having to learn in extreme circumstances.

ALI CRAWFORD…5.5.

Sprung into life either side of half time and looked capable of picking the Newport lock. Still clearly some reservations on Evatt’s part, however, that the Scot can last for 90 minutes.

NATHAN DELFOUNESO…5.

Bit unlucky with the disallowed goal, denied by a linesman some 25 yards away rather than a referee six yards away. Big chance before half time but hit with negligible belief.

EOIN DOYLE…4.5.

It is clear to see that Wanderers’ poor start is getting under his skin – and the striker’s pedigree suggests that when he gets on a roll, he’ll stay on it. If only Wanderers could get him on a roll.

Subs: Isgrove 65 (for Hickman) – Put a couple of decent crosses in towards the end. Could be a valuable addition. 5.

Tutte 65 (for Crawford) – Certainly got involved. Has to be pushing for a start now. 5.

Gnahoua 65 (for Delfouneso) – Attitude looked good. Has a point to prove. 5.

Not used: Delaney, Mascoll, Darcy, Alexander.
