WANDERERS bowed out of the EFL Trophy with a 2-1 defeat at Shrewsbury that leaves them bottom of their group.

Ian Evatt made nine changes to the side which had beaten Harrogate at the weekend - but who took their chance?

The Bolton News:

WANDERERS (3-4-1-2)

BILLY CRELLIN…6.

The odd wobble with distribution but generally sound and pulled off a fine save from Barnett after the interval.

ADAM SENIOR…7.

Got Wanderers back in it with a close-range header – a goal the Boltonian will definitely savour. Looked very steady on his first team return.

RYAN DELANEY…6.

Was comfortable enough as Shrewsbury looked to pump the ball into channels either side of the back three. Subbed at the break with Saturday in mind.

GEORGE TAFT…5.5.

Recovered after his early mistake and looked solid when moved to the centre of the three in the second half.

JAK HICKMAN…5.5.

Wasted a couple of crosses after getting into some good positions. Late chance swept over the bar too.

TOM WHITE…5.5.

Looked good on the ball but his day fell apart after a poorly-struck penalty. To make matters worse, a poor challenge from Vela meant he limped from the pitch before half time.

BRANDON COMLEY…6.

Tidy but took quite some time to really get into the game. Seemed to look forward in possession more once White went off.

LIAM GORDON…6.

Produced some decent service from the left but interspersed with moments of inexperience. A step in the right direction, though.

RONAN DARCY…6.5.

Some of the classier bits of football came through the young midfielder and though he would have wanted more of the ball, it was an encouraging return to the team.

ARTHUR GNAHOUA…6.

Got in exactly the right positions but will know he should have been on the scoresheet. Great run to win the penalty.

FINLEY LOCKETT…5.5.

Big ask for the youngster to make a dent in an experienced Shrews back line. He worked hard but didn’t find much drop his way.

Subs: Riley 7, 36 (for White) – Yes, he made the mistake for the second goal but responded in exactly the right way.

Greenidge 6.5, 46 (for Delaney) – Big threat at set pieces and his back-post header made the goal for Senior.

Mascoll 5.5, 69 (for Lockett) – Worked hard but missed a big chance towards the end to take the game into penalties.

Not used: Alexander, Conway, Tweedley, Le Fondre.

Shrewsbury (4-1-2-3): Burgoyne; Fossey, Walker, Pierre, Goldbourne; Vela, Zamburek, High; Tracey, Cummings, Barnett

Subs: Daniels 46 (for Vela), Miller

Not used: Gregory, Millar, Love, Goss, Rowland, Caton
