Andrew Fisher was handed his senior league debut in MK Dons’ defeat at Blackpool and could be set for an extended run in the side.

Fisher was a deadline day signing for the League One club, ending his nine-year association with Rovers in which he made four appearances for the senior team.

The latest of those came in the Carabao Cup win over Doncaster in August, with his three others coming in the Checkatrade Trophy campaign of 2017/18.

The 22-year-old has faced a wait for a league debut however, failing to do so during spells with Northampton and MK Dons last term.

The Dons have always been keen on securing Fisher on a permanent deal, and did so on deadline day, before handing him his debut as he replaced Lee Nicholls between the sticks.

"Fish is a really calm person and a really level-headed person,” boss Russell Martin told the MK Citizen.

"He’s great with the ball and plays really well. Deano (goalkeeping coach Dean Thorton) has nudged me to keep singing him and I’m really pleased he’s in.

"When they are called upon we need them to engage and do their job for the team. He’ll get better and better and is a long-term singing for this club at his age.

"He’s a really good player and now it’s up to Lee (Nicholls) and Laurie (Walker) to push him hard and when they get his chance – they have to take it.

“It’s up to Andrew now to keep the position. Consistently is important, but Fish has to make sure it’s him. If he produces the performances then he stays in, but Lee needs to stay in the best shape he can be so if he gets the chance – he’ll take it.”
