WANDERERS (3-4-3)

BILLY CRELLIN…5.

We hoped this would be the perfect sort of game for him to gain some confidence – but it proved another difficult night where the keeper looked ill-at-ease playing the ball out from the back.

GEORGE TAFT…7.

Potentially saved the day with a late block. Captain on the night, Taft showed he has got plenty to give Wanderers despite finding himself out of the reckoning.

REISS GREENIDGE…6.5.

Wasn’t perfect, by any means, but there’s clearly something there. Needs a run of games but with Santos in dominating form, it is hard to see him getting them.

JAMIE MASCOLL…6.

Playing on the left of the three, Mascoll did not have an easy first half, but he improved after the break and was rewarded with a winning goal.

JAK HICKMAN…6.

Deserved to get on the scoresheet for attitude alone. Kept beavering away on the right flank even if the end results were mixed.

BRANDON COMLEY…5.

The first goal seemed to knock his confidence. You can argue exactly who was at fault, or whether players should be getting square passes with their back to goal, but he struggled to get his mojo back.

TOM WHITE…6.

Subbed after picking up a yellow card. He looked hungry for the ball but is still carrying a semblance of the knee injury that kept him out for weeks.

LLOYD ISGROVE…6.5.

Looked decent on either flank, put in a few good crosses, and looks like he will be a valuable member of the front line once he’s fit again.

RONAN DARCY…7.

Grew into the game and was dominating midfield by the end of proceedings. Darcy is a little unlucky to be out of the side at the moment but this was a good response.

LIAM GORDON…6.

His mark edged up as the night went on. Made some timely challenges in his own half but still needs more confidence running at opposing defenders.

SHAUN MILLER…6.

Looked a bit isolated for the first 40 minutes but helped when partnered up top with Gnahoua.

Subs: Gnahoua 6, 63 (for White) – Grabbed a goal, can’t ask for more.

Thomason 72 (for Miller) – Impressive cameo. Some classy touches.

Henry 72 (for Isgrove) – Surprise debutant, looked eager to impress.

Not used: Alexander, Senior, Riley, Assarsson.

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): (4-2-3-1) Langley; Swailes, Cross, Francillette, Lazaar; Brockwell, Rounsfell; Anderson, Vilca, Flaherty; Toure.

Subs: Indancio 89 (for Flaherty).

Not used: Brown, Longelo, Oliver.

Referee: Ollie Yates.
