IAN Evatt admits his ‘secret target’ is scheduled for a longer stay at Wanderers.

Although the Wanderers boss had initially refused to name the midfielder drafted into the training ground for a trial at the start of the week, it has since emerged on both sides of the Pennines that the man in question is ex-Sheffield Wednesday ball-winner, Kieran Lee.

The 32-year-old is looking for a new club after leaving Hillsborough in the summer and is understood to be keen on a move to Bolton above a few other offers in League One and Two.

Lee trained with Bolton on Monday and will link-up again with the club at the end of this week before discussing a potential deal.

Asked about how the player was doing, Evatt added: “He’s fine. He’s doing well. I think his name’s out there anyway! The name that should not be mentioned!

“However, he’s a good player, we just want to make sure all is okay and do our due diligence, but that will be progressing.”

Evatt was delighted with last night’s win against Cheltenham, a result which puts them within three points of the play-offs once again.

The Bolton boss still sees areas of improvement but hopes the manner of victory at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium gives his players some belief that they can push on, with the visit of Keith Hill’s Tranmere to come on Saturday.

“It just sends a message that they can do it,” he said. “The most difficult thing in football is to stand up to stuff like that and have that desire and willingness to put your head on the line and win battles, but then in possession have the calmness to keep the ball.

“It’s very hard to switch from one mode to the other. That’s what we need to work on and we need to be better at that, but we’re talking fine margins and fine lines and nit-picking there, but to do it the way we have done tonight and to win it with a set piece, it’s great.”

Ryan Delaney bounced back to form with a match-winning goal to delight the Wanderers boss.

“He deserves it,” Evatt said. “Ryan by his own admission will probably understand that he’s been off it the last couple of games but I’ve showed faith and belief in him as I’ve done with everyone else and tonight he stood up and was really a man mountain as well as Rico and Baps and to get the goal at the goal was great. There’s no better feeling in football than a last-minute winner.”
