SUNDERLAND want to sign Forest Green Rovers captain Carl Winchester.

Lee Johnson knows the Northern Irishman well having played under the Black Cats for three of his six-and-a-half years as an Oldham Athletic player.

Winchester was among the substitutes for Forest Green's game against Oldham Athletic, which was abandoned after 58 minutes because of fog.

The midfielder has spent the last two-and-a-half seasons at the Nailsworth club after signing from Cheltenham Town, where he played under Lee's father, Gary.

Scunthorpe United are considering a move for AFC Wimbledon captain Will Nightingale during the transfer window.

Iron boss, former Bolton Wanderers defender, Neil Cox worked with Nightingale during his time as assistant manager at the Dons and it is understood he would like to add the 6ft 3” defender to the ranks if finances allow this January.

PLAY-off chasing Cambridge United have suffered a blow after Ipswich Town recalled young midfielder Idris El Mizouni from his loan spell.

The Frenchman moved to the Abbey Stadium on a season-long loan, although the Tractor Boys have decided to cancel the deal with immediate effect.

El Mizouni has impressed for Cambridge, who sit 5th in the League Two standings, and played 15 times for Mark Bonner's side.
