IAN Evatt remains relaxed about Wanderers’ contract situation – confident everyone will give their all for the promotion cause.

The nature of Bolton’s rebuild this season, bolstered by several loan players, means there will be plenty of decisions to be made come the end of the season, no matter what division the club finds itself in.

Thus far the Whites have tied down star defender Ricardo Santos to an extended deal with options also in other players’ contracts.

And Evatt believes that whether a particular player sees themselves at the club in the long term or not, all involved will want to make sure the final 10 games of the season see Wanderers seal an immediate return to League One for both collective and personal reasons.

“We are obviously having discussions but, for me, it is really important that we keep everyone focussed on the job at hand,” the Bolton boss said ahead of today’s game at Forest Green.

“In terms of being covered – we have options on the key players anyway. It is not as if we are going to lose players, so for now it is important that we focus on what we have to do.

“It can only benefit a player – whether you are in the team or not – if they have a promotion on their CV.

“That is what we want for the lads. If we go up, not only does it help the lads financially but career-wise it looks great.

“If you are staying or leaving it is beneficial if you have been part of a promotion-winning team.”

After a busy transfer window helped transform Wanderers’ season, Evatt believes that should his players continue to hit the performance levels they have done in recent weeks – the Whites currently 12 games unbeaten in League Two – then they will have a fantastic chance of completing their remarkable turnaround come May.

After a topsy-turvy start to life at the UniBol, the Bolton manager believes one key thing will help his side get over the line.

“I think just consistency of performance,” Evatt said.

“I think when you’re not performing well, you may win games, you may also lose them and more often than not, you will lose them when you’re not performing well.

“So when you perform consistently well, it gives you a much better chance of winning football matches.

“I think we just need to concentrate on our own performance levels, concentrate on our own gameplan, what we’re trying to implement on the opposition and if we do that to the best of our abilities, I believe that we have the best players in this division.

“That’s what I believe but I’m their manager so I’m biased, but I do believe that and if they can perform to the levels that I expect for the rest of the season then we have a fantastic chance.”
