PLAYING for Bolton Wanderers is just heaven at the moment for Eoin Doyle.

The Irish goal-poacher snatched his 16th strike of the season against Forest Green on Saturday lunchtime to maintain a red-hot streak of form for Ian Evatt’s men.

Though Tranmere eventually bumped them out of the top three with a home draw against Mansfield, Bolton remain on their longest unbeaten run in 22 years and looked to be timing their dash for the line with perfection.

Doyle has been the focal point of the attack for the whole campaign and has already set the highest goal return for a Whites player since 2001.

And the 32-year-old says the kind of football Wanderers are serving up at present bodes well for him adding to that total over the final nine games.

“It’s great for me,” he said of the team’s style. “I am the kind of striker who isn’t going to score out of nothing, I need delivery and service into the box and it’s heaven for me being able to play in this type of team. It suits my game.”

The hard-fought win against Forest Green maintained Wanderers’ 100 per cent record in front of the TV cameras this season. And though Doyle grabs the headlines for another match-winning effort, he credited team-mate Nathan Delfouneso with the hard work to create it.

“It puts us right in contention now with nine games to go and it was just that bit of magic from Nathan (Delfouneso) going down the right and putting in a perfect ball. I’m just glad it went in,” he said.

“I think the cross was better than the goal, Nathan has put it exactly where it needed to be.

“I just tried to hit it into the floor to make sure it went on target.

“It wasn’t the best spectacle to be watching from the stand or on TV but we dug, managed to hold on to it and it was a massive three points.”

“I think we are the best team in the league on our day and we are turning up week in, week out at the moment. It’s enjoyable to play in.

Doyle also feels his manager, Evatt, deserved due credit for turning around Bolton’s fortunes in the last couple of months.

“He has obviously got his man-management spot on,” he said. “Everyone loves playing for him.

“He is a good guy and he puts a lot of detail into the way we set up and how we implement it on the training ground before we come out for a Saturday and a Tuesday night. He has also got a set of lads who listen and know how to do their job so it is all fitting well into each other.

“We enjoyed it because we have got a good rhythm out there and we know our jobs. We work hard during the week and it is paying off.”
