WANDERERS (4-2-3-1).

MATT GILKS…6.5.

Yet another clean sheet for Gilks but other than keeping the commentary going, the Wanderers stopper literally did not have a save to make.

GETHIN JONES…6.5.

Wrongly flagged offside after getting himself into the six-yard box in the first half. Not quite as effective after the break.

RICARDO SANTOS…6.5.

Coped with pretty much everything that came his way but there were a few moments when his concentration wobbled.

ALEX BAPTISTE…7.5.

Comfortable, and darn near perfect. Wanderers will need him in this type of mood if they are to get something at Newport.

DECLAN JOHN…7.

Looked to be playing at a different speed for the first 30 minutes. It was a shame Wanderers could not keep the supply line up.

MJ WILLIAMS…6.5.

Did his job and protected the back four, not really wasting the ball. Wanderers’ issues on the day were further up the pitch.

KIERAN LEE…6.5.

Dominated the first half, popping up around the penalty box with regularity. He was forced deeper after the break, much to Bolton’s detriment.

ARTHUR GNAHOUA…5.

Back in the starting line-up for the first time since February but this wasn’t the return ‘The King’ would have wanted. Struggled to get into it.

NATHAN DELFOUNESO…5.5.

Looked up for it in the very early stages but became a peripheral character which drifted through the game. Needed more urgency.

DAPO AFOLAYAN…6.

No questioning the youngster’s attitude but he lost possession too often to be considered effective on the day.

EOIN DOYLE…6.

Looked isolated in the second half – and though he had a couple of half-chances, he mustered just two touches in the penalty box.

Subs: Maddison 6, 61 (for Gnahoua) – Better. At least looked to test Colchester’s resolve.

Elbouzedi 6, 61 (for Delfouneso) – Went as close as anyone to breaking the deadlock.

Miller 5, 69 (for Afolayan) – Struggled to get himself into the game.

Not used: Tutte, Brockbank, Thomason, Isgrove.

Colchester United: Gerken, Welch-Hayes, Eastman, Smith, Clampin, Lapslie, Chilvers, Pell, Wiredu, Senior, Nouble.

Subs: Brown 76 (for Nouble), Stevenson 77 (for Lapslie), Cowan-Hall 88 (for Chilvers).

Not used: Stevenson, Cowan-Hall, Brown.

Referee: Ollie Yates – 5/10 – Big claims in the Bolton camp that the goal should have stood. And Yates never cracked down on the Colchester timewasting.
