GETHIN Jones will be staying with Wanderers next season – with Ian Evatt revealing an extension clause may already have been triggered in his contract.

The former Everton full-back, who has been one of the Whites’ most consistent customers this season, signed on a free transfer last August after leaving Carlisle United.

Barring a spell out with an ankle injury in October, Jones has played the vast majority of games for Evatt on the right side of defence, and chipped in with three goals, including one against Exeter City last weekend.

Evatt, whose side go to Crawley this afternoon looking for a win to secure automatic promotion, says the 25-year-old has fully deserved an extended stay at the University of Bolton Stadium.

“He has played every game, more or less,” the manager said. “I might be wrong but I am pretty sure the option (in his contract) has already been triggered now – so I don’t think it will be an issue.”

The Bolton boss has sought to shelve contract talk for the last few weeks to devote full concentration to the club’s promotion effort – but an Instagram post from one of the club’s talented youngsters, Finlay Lockett, may also have revealed a deal in the offing.

The 18-year-old striker, who made his first team debut last season, not only revealed that he had signed a contract – but also that he had picked up a ruptured anterior ligament in his knee, which would keep him out of action for nine months.

Lockett has scored 18 times for the Under-18s this season and Ian Evatt revealed he had “high hopes” for the youngster’s future after giving him game time against Colchester United in the league, and Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Trophy earlier this season.

It is understood that a contract has been offered to Lockett but that the paperwork is yet to be formally completed.

Wanderers are expected to confirm all news of new professional deals when they publish their retained list at the end of the season.

One player contracted to the Whites next season but facing a somewhat uncertain future is centre-back Reiss Greenidge.

The big centre-half has made just seven appearances for Bolton last season, the last of which ended with a red card against today’s opponents Crawley.

His deal, signed last summer after a spell in Norwegian football, has 12 months to run.

Asked about his current form and fitness, Evatt added: “Reiss has been fine. Obviously it has been competitive and I can only pick 18 people so he knows he has to knuckle down and fight to be a part of it.”
