WANDERERS do not have to make massive changes to their promotion-winning squad to be successful in League One, insists Lloyd Isgrove.

Ian Evatt scheduled individual meetings with his players yesterday, telling those who are out of contract whether they will be staying at the UniBol, or moving on elsewhere.

Isgrove, who is one of the players at the end of his current deal, believes most of the group which finished the second half of the campaign so strongly can be a solid foundation for success in the higher division.

Speaking to The Bolton News, he said: “I’ve had a promotion from League One with Barnsley, there are other lads in there too who have done well at that level. But I think just the spirit we have in the group will give us a head start, and I do hope that the squad is kept together.

“You’ve got some big clubs in the division so of course you will need a bit of extra quality here and there but speaking to the lads when we went out, they fancy it. I think it’s such a good bond it will be an advantage, especially with a full pre-season together.”

Wanderers are expected to make an announcement on those players who have been offered contracts, and those who have not, over the next couple of days.

One man who will definitely be with the club next season is Eoin Doyle, who led the scoring charts with 19 goals in the term just gone.

Isgrove had played alongside Doyle at Swindon, securing promotion the previous year, and sees no reason why he cannot go and score plenty more in League One.

“He will score goals. When you are as natural as he is, you give him chances and he will score,” he said.

“As long as you have people who can get the ball to him in the right areas – and we have this season – he is definitely going to score, doesn’t matter what league it is.

“You would back him to score plenty, he’s a class striker.

“I think when we got together at Swindon it did click right away and when you train every day together, have that on-and-off-the-field relationship it definitely helps. He knows how I play and I know exactly how he plays.

“We can pass without looking, I know the sort of runs he makes and it really helps out there.”
