IAN Evatt’s latest new recruit Will Aimson believes Wanderers’ ambitions match his own.

The central defender has linked up with the Whites after being a regular for Plymouth in League One last season.

A former team-mate of Bolton skipper Antoni Sarcevic at Argyle, the 27-year-old is excited to be joining a club very much on the up after storming to automatic promotion in League Two.

“I know a couple of the players, I was keeping an eye on results last season and especially the second half of the season you could tell the club was really going the right way,” Aimson said having become the fifth new arrival at the UniBol this summer.

“They got the promotion which was fully deserved. It’s on the move, on the way up and something I want to be a part of.

“I can tell it’s ambitious, like myself so I’m looking forward to getting going.”

With 46 appearances in the Plymouth defence last season, Aimson knows all about the challenge that awaits the Whites on their return to the third tier.

“It’s one of those divisions, a bit like League Two, where consistency is massive and you’ll find that anyone can beat anyone,” he told the club.

“Getting that consistency is huge and having that solid base, that solid foundation and going from there.

“It’s a difficult league, you obviously get three clubs coming down from the Championship that are strong and will be looking to go straight back up, plus a few others that are going to be strong as well.

“It’s not going to be easy but I think the club is in a good position to go and attack it.”

Having won promotion with both Bury and Blackpool earlier in his career, Aimson is back in Lancashire at a time when supporters are gearing up to finally return to stadiums.

As he put pen to paper on his move to Wanderers, the club had just passed the 8,500 mark when it comes to season ticket sales.

And as Evatt’s men look to make a real impact in League One – boosted by fellow permanent signings Dapo Afolayan, Declan John, Josh Sheehan and George Johnston – Aimson believes the returning fans can make a real difference.

“You ask any footballer about last season, we had a little spell where they were in the stadiums but it’s not been the same,” he said.

“Some clubs have been promoted and things like that but it’s not been as enjoyable as other seasons.

“It makes a massive difference to have them here, it’s part of the game, it’s part of the reason we play it, to play in front of fans, your friends and family, so it will be brilliant when we can have them back in and cheering us on.

“I know they’ll make a big difference at this club.”
