RYAN Delaney has completed a move to Morecambe, signing a two-year deal with Wanderers’ League One rivals.

The Irish defender severed ties with Bolton this summer after failing to agree terms on a new contract.

He had featured 27 times over the course of a season-and-a-half with the Whites, scoring three times, but found himself slipping down the pecking order after the summer signing of George Johnston.

Delaney has now linked up with Morecambe, who clinched promotion from League Two via a play-off final victory against Newport County.

“I’m excited to get started and have a new challenge for this coming season,” the 24-year-old said.

“The gaffer spoke to me about two weeks ago and since he rang me, then I wanted to get it done as soon as possible.

“I’ll always give 100 per cent, I’ll put my body on the line and I want to do my best to keep as many clean sheets next season and hopefully produce a couple of goals at the other end.”

Morecambe, now managed by former Northern Ireland boss Stephen Robinson, also added Walsall attacker Wes McDonald to their ranks this afternoon.

He had previously brought in Arthur Gnahoua, who was also released in the summer by Ian Evatt.

Robinson believes Delaney – who has League One experience with Bolton, Rochdale and AFC Wimbledon – will be a good addition to his squad.

“We’re delighted to have him on board, I think he’ll excel here,” he said.

“He’s a big, strong player, he’s good on the ball and he had some good games for Bolton last year.

“He can play in the middle of a back three, he can play in the left of a back three or in a back four.

“I believe there’s another level in him as well, he’s still learning the game.”

Meanwhile, Robinson's former club Motherwell have today signed another player with Wanderers connections, Kaiyne Woolery.

The former Bolton striker scored 11 goals in 52 games for Tranmere Rovers in League Two last season.
