WANDERERS have completed the signing of former Barrow goalkeeper Joel Dixon.

The 27-year-old former Sunderland youngster has been a mainstay at Holker Street since 2015 and played every game of Whites boss Ian Evatt’s National League title-winning campaign with the Bluebirds.

The deal has been talked about for several weeks but is now official, Dixon penning a two-year contract at the UniBol.

When Evatt left Barrow for the UniBol last summer it was announced that a “two-year embargo” had been agreed, which meant he could not sign players from his former club who were under contract.

Dixon is however a free agent and was delighted to get the deal done as he looks to compete with Matt Gilks for the No.1 spot

He said: "It’s a new chapter in my career and I’m looking forward to starting.

"The size and stature of the club and where it wants to get back to is perfect for me.

“I have worked with the gaffer before at Barrow and I cannot wait to get started here.”

Evatt added: “Joel is a player who has played a lot for me and is someone I know and trust. He will provide good competition in the goalkeeping department and will never let anybody down.

“He’s a consistent footballer and a consistent character both on and off the pitch.”
