IAN Evatt has confirmed that Eoin Doyle and Dennis Politic are showing no symptoms in their self-isolation for Covid-19.

Both players will miss this weekend’s pre-season friendly at FC United of Manchester, with Doyle also absent for the following Tuesday’s game against Preston North End at Leyland.

But the Wanderers boss says that despite their positive tests the players are not struggling with illness and should be free to return to full training immediately on their return.

“Dennis has Covid, Eoin Doyle has Covid,” the manager confirmed. “We, like everybody else at the moment, have Covid issues.

“It seems really prevalent all across society so it’s just something we need to deal with and limit risk as best we can and hopefully the other lads don’t pick it up.

“They’re fine, absolutely fine. No issues. It’s just obviously following protocol so that’s what we have to do.”

Asked how long they are likely to miss, Evatt added: “Dennis was self-isolating from Friday so that takes him to Monday. Eoin only tested positive yesterday (Monday, July 12) so he’ll be 10 days.”

Wanderers frustrated at times against Atherton Colls on Tuesday night but eventually rattled in four goals in the final 18 minutes to seal their second successive win of pre-season.

That they were made to work hard for the result pleased Evatt.

“That’s good,” he said. “That’s what we want. We don’t expect in friendlies teams to do that, but it’s good that they do it because that’s what we’ll face this season. Eventually we’ll get you. We’ll score one and then once we get one and you break their spirit, then the floodgates open as they did tonight and I thought the way we moved them second half was excellent."

Evatt was also pleased to give on loan winger Xavier Amaechi a solid hour as he looks to step up his fitness and match sharpness to bring him in line with the rest of the squad.

“Physically, he looked better again. It is just that he has missed a lot of football so we need to get him as many minutes as we possibly can.

“Sixty minutes here was good for him and hopefully he can step up again on Saturday.”
