George Johnston scored a late header as Wanderers continued their pre-season preparations with a 1-1 draw at FC United of Manchester.

A trialist had put the hosts in front early in the second half after an error from Joel Dixon.

The first real chance fell to the hosts as the trialist fired into the side netting after finding space in behind the Wanderers defence.

Jordan Simpson then flashed an effort wide before Matt Gilks made a decent stop to deny Ali Waddecar.

At the other end, Antoni Sarcevic had the ball in the net but the Bolton skipper was denied by the offside flag.

Amadou Bakayoko then went close after the FC United defence had failed to deal with Lloyd Isgrove’s inviting cross.

The second half got off to a bizarre start as Dixon gave the ball away on the edge of his box, leaving a trialist with the simplest of finishes.

Bakayoko then looked to pounce on a sloppy pass, but the forward’s effort sailed over the bar.

Midway through the second half, George Thomason was denied by the goalkeeper after a slick passing move.

Xavier Amaechi then dragged wide after a brilliant 40-yard run as the Whites searched for an equaliser.

Inside the final five minutes, the hosts struck a post before Johnston cleared off the line.

And just seconds before the final whistle, the defender headed home from Adam Senior's flick-on.

Ian Evatt's men are back in action on Tuesday night when they face Preston North End at the County Ground in Leyland.
