WANDERERS have had to cancel a pre-season friendly against Bamber Bridge after several of the club’s development staff have gone into Covid-19 self-isolation.

The match was due to be played on Wednesday night at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium and was the first ‘reserve team’ outing under new first team coach Sam Hird.

The Bolton News understands that the first team’s game against Preston North End at Leyland, due to be played on Tuesday night, currently remains unaffected.

Wanderers have had a few absentees in the first few friendlies of the season, including striker Eoin Doyle – who remains in self-isolation until Thursday – and winger Dennis Politic, who should be available for selection tomorrow.

A club statement read: “The Bolton Wanderers XI pre-season fixture against Bamber Bridge FC at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium on Wednesday has been called off.

“With several members of the club’s development staff isolating, it was mutually decided to postpone the fixture.”

Wanderers’ second string are pencilled in to play at Chorley on July 27 (7.30pm kick off) and as things stand there are no plans to cancel the fixture, the club has confirmed.
