XAVIER Amaechi faces surgery to repair a fractured metatarsal.

The Wanderers winger, on loan from Hamburg, faces several weeks on the side-lines after specialists in London confirmed the worst on Monday.

Amaechi limped out of the 1-0 win against Preston North End at Leyland last week but the extent of the injury was not immediately apparent after regular scans.

Ian Evatt supplied an update after last night’s 1-0 win at Chorley, admitting that the former Arsenal star’s absence could now force him to change his plans in the transfer market before the end of the window.

“The latest is he will have surgery this week to repair a fractured metatarsal,” said the Bolton boss.

Asked if he will now look to bring another right-sided attacker in, he added: “Possibly, we are obviously one light now in that position and we may be a tad light there anyway, so we’re looking but we’re not going to rush into things. We have to make sure it’s right.”

Amaechi has arrived at Wanderers looking to kickstart his career after a spell in Germany had not brought him the first team games he sought when he left the Emirates in 2019.

He had featured in three pre-season friendlies and been challenged by Evatt to find his full match fitness before the injury struck.
