ALEX Baptise produced an amazing stoppage time equaliser for Wanderers as they marked their return to League One with a dramatic point against MK Dons.

Ian Evatt’s side were their own worst enemy at times, surrendering two avoidable goals and then falling behind with six minutes left on the clock.

But it was the old stager Baptiste who stabbed home from close range in the 93rd minute to send fans home happy in their first competitive visit to the UniBol in more than 18 months.

Wanderers got a couple of early warning shots across their boughs as MK looked to exploit space down their right.

Tennai Watson lifted a shot over the bar and George Johnston was needed to make a timely challenge on Eisa, who had drifted in from the edge of the area.

Evatt’s men found their feet, however, and Antoni Sarcevic had his first shout for a penalty turned down when he was wrestled off the ball by Harry Darling after running on to Gethin Jones’s through ball.

Dapo Afolayan arrowed a shot inches wide of Laurie Walker’s left-hand post and Doyle came within inches of steering home a good cross from Johnston.

But just as Bolton looked to have gained momentum they wasted it, allowing MK to take a 23rd minute lead. A poor ball from Matt Gilks was mis-controlled by Johnston, with Eisa able to drift unchecked into the penalty box. It looked as if he had waited too long to get a shot away, but his effort eventually beat Gilks at his near post, hitting the back of the net to stunned silence.

It might have got worse very quickly for Bolton had Johnston not got back on the line to clear Troy Parrott’s shot, MK having broken on an accidental slip from Alex Baptiste on halfway.

Wanderers got themselves level with a wonderful free kick from Sheehan, won by Afolayan on the edge of the box but despatched with meticulous precision by the Wales international.

MJ Williams had a heart-in-mouth moment as he went in hard on Zack Jules – the Bolton midfielder shown a yellow card with the smattering of away supporters calling for a red.

And Bolton finished the half strongly, Sarcevic having an even better penalty appeal turned away by ref Martin Coy as he went sprawling under pressure from Warren O’Hora.

The heavens opened in the second half but Wanderers were looking good as they seized the lead, Declan John intercepting a loose ball and surging down the right past Watson before crossing low for Bakayoko to turn in at the far post.

The debut boys continued to shine and Scott Twine, making his league bow for the Dons, made it two apiece with a deflected free kick.

Wanderers wasted a series of glorious chances to re-establish their lead. Afoalyan, Doyle and Sarcevic all went close.

And as the worst of the downpour came down from the clouds, Bolton’s hopes looked like they were about to get washed out completely.

Just as the Whites called for a foul on Sheehan 30 yards from the MK goal, the visitors broke quickly and sub Hiram Boateng was able to poke a cross in from close range to spark scenes of wild celebrations in front of the dugouts.

But the drama wasn’t over – and as Bolton flashed shots and crosses into the box, Elias Kachunga was able to turn one back at the far post for Baptiste to poke in his first Bolton goal since January 1, 2014 in his first spell with the club.
