MK Dons interim boss Dean Lewington believes a draw was a fair result following his side’s 3-3 draw with Wanderers at the UniBol.

Alex Baptiste scored a dramatic late equaliser for the Whites, who had earlier gone 2-1 up thanks to goals from Josh Sheehan and Amadou Bakayoko.

It was Lewington’s first taste of management after taking charge following Russell Martin’s move to Swansea City.

The Dons’ interim boss was happy with his side’s performance but admits conceding so late was tough to take.

“First game of the season, you want to start well and be positive but obviously we’re aware that against a newly promoted team with the fans back, we’re always up against it,” said Lewington.

“I think when we look back, we probably would (have taken a draw). It’s a good point against a good team, just the way it happened it feels like a bit of a body blow at the end.

“I think it was a fairly even game. We were slightly more on the front foot in terms of our passing and we’ve had moments, bursts of attacks which we’ve done well with.

“But overall, both teams scored a free-kick and when you look at the balance of play, I think it was probably quite even.”

The Dons – who took the lead through Mo Eisa – were left ruing a missed chance which would have put them two goals ahead when Troy Parrott went through on goal.

Matt Gilks was beaten but George Johnston – making his full debut for Wanderers, made a vital block in front of goal.

“It was a difficult one for Troy,” added Lewington. “ He was trying to sort his feet out and spin. He had the keeper coming out and he’s done well to get the shot off in the end.

“(Johnston) has done great on the line to manage to get that block in. If that goes in it makes it a completely different game.”
