WANDERERS (4-3-3).

MATT GILKS… 5.

Not his finest hour. Played a bad ball into Johnston for the opening goal and then committed that cardinal goalkeeping sin of conceding at his near post.

GETHIN JONES… 6.5.

Worked the ball well with Bakayoko, though that final ball still needs to improve. Harvie was restricted to only a few crosses from the MK left, so no obvious complaints.

ALEX BAPTISTE…6.5.

Scored the equalising goal – his first for more than seven years in Bolton colours – but by his own admission found life on the right a little tough at times.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…6.5.

Lots to like. Should have cleared into touch for the opening goal and never looked entirely comfortable but that block on the line was a game-changer.

DECLAN JOHN…6.5.

Proper Jekyll and Hyde stuff from the Welshman. Struggled at times defensively as MK overloaded the left but produced a real bit of class for Bakayoko’s goal.

MJ WILLIAMS…7.

Unfortunately stymied by that first half yellow card, which forced him to curb some of his natural ball-winning instincts. Still got around the pitch and earned due praise for it.

ANTONI SARCEVIC…6.5.

So near but so far away for the skipper, who had two big penalty appeals turned down and a couple of half-chances that on a different day would have made him the headline.

JOSH SHEEHAN…7.

After a relatively anonymous half-hour the midfielder came into his own with a superb free kick. He prowled round the fringes of the penalty box after that and looked dangerous.

AMADOU BAKAYOKO…7.5.

Always looked to get involved, didn’t shirk a challenge and popped up with the second goal of the day. Not a bad debut at all.

EOIN DOYLE…6.

Maybe an Eoin Doyle with a full pre-season walks out of the game with a goal to show for his efforts, which were considerable. A hard day’s graft didn’t go unnoticed.

DAPO AFOLAYAN…6.5.

MK clearly wanted to restrict his space but the winger always looked likely to make something happen when he got on to the ball.

Subs: Isgrove 72 (for Doyle), Kachunga 85 (for Afolayan), Lee 85 (for Sheehan).

Not used: Santos, Delfouneso, Dixon, Thomason.

MK Dons (3-5-2): Walker, Darling, O’Hora, Jules; Watson, O’Riley, Twine, Robson, Harvie; Parrott, Eisa.

Subs: Baldwin 68 (for Watson), Boateng 81 (for Parrott), Illunga 90+2 (for Twine).

Referee: Martin Coy 5.5/10. Wanderers ended up on the wrong side of two big calls, for Sarcevic’s second penalty shout and when Coy failed to award a foul on Josh Sheehan in the build-up to MK’s third. But the same man also (rightly) ignored calls to send MJ Williams off for his first half challenge on Zack Jules.

Did he fall for the MK dramatics? Probably.
