AFC Wimbledon boss Mark Robinson says facing Wanderers in the first match back at Plough Lane with fans is ‘absolutely perfect’.

The Dons’ last fixture with supporters at the original Plough Lane ground was in 1991, and tickets for Saturday’s game have sold out.

Robinson – who took charge of the London club back in February - says facing an opponent of Wanderers’ stature makes it even sweeter.

“(Ian Evatt) has done an incredible job and their results were unbelievable after the start they had last season," he told the club's YouTube channel.

“They played really good football, really hard-working, on the front foot. It’s going to be a really tough challenge.

“But I think it’s great that we’ve got a club like Bolton. No disrespect to any other club but to play a club that’s so rich in history, I think it’s absolutely perfect for the monumental game that it is on Saturday.

“To have an opponent like Bolton Wanderers is so fitting, so we’ll try to give them as tough a time as we can.”

The Dons have made a strong start to the new season, beating Doncaster Rovers and Charlton Athletic over the past week.

And Robinson believes his side can give Wanderers a tough test on Saturday.

“We have to be tough to play against," he added. "We’ve played two games and the opposition have had probably two clear chances, so that’s really pleasing.

“Both performances were probably better than I realised at the time if I’m honest. When I watched the games back, there was a lot to be pleased about and there’s so much more to come.

“We look organised, we look structured and that’s key – we’ve got to be like that. If there’s going to be a bit more to come on the ball, and there will be, that’s fine – that can come.

“But first and foremost, we need to be really tough to play against and hard to beat.”
