ELIAS Kachunga is revving up to make a real impact on Wanderers’ campaign.

Signed just last week, the German-born striker is already impressing coaching staff at Lostock as he gets nearer to match fitness.

The former Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday man has shown flashes of class from the substitutes’ bench in Bolton colours but behind the scenes, Ian Evatt says his impact on the group has also been considerable.

“We brought Kacha to the club for many, many reasons and one is that he is a leader,” he said.

“He is an experienced player and we saw from his minutes on Saturday and his minutes on Tuesday that he is going to have a good positive effect on this football club and the team itself.

“He has already been taken in well by the lads. He is positive and mentoring the younger players but also leading the more experienced ones as well. He is a shining example to everybody really.

“A bit like the German cars, just so professional. He’s one of the first in and the last out every day, in the gym, stretching, working, eating properly, taking care of his body.

“He hasn’t had a pre-season so the way he has seamlessly transitioned into our team and into training is a credit to him. He is one of the ones that only going to get better.”

Kachunga’s arrival means Wanderers are theoretically at the limit of senior players in the squad, as dictated by the EFL’s rules on squad sizes in League One this season. Teams are allowed 22 players over the age of 21, excluding goalkeepers, although there may yet be some flexibility for Bolton, depending on Liam Edwards’ return from injury.

The likes of Ali Crawford and Brandon Comley could yet be moved on to create space for new signings in the final couple of weeks of the transfer window.

“There are players available but at the moment we have had no bites on those,” Evatt confirmed.

“We still have two or three weeks left in the window so we will take it to the end and see what happens.”
